How
do you Add ¼ + 3/8 + 1/16? Well I convert them to a decimal
first, using a Calculator.
¼
= 1 divided X 4=.25
3/8
= 3 divided X
8=.375
1/16
= 1 divided X 16=.0625
adding
the decimals together=.6875
looking
at a chart I made up tells me that
.6875
=11/16
CHART
after
you’ve used this method many times you’ll find yourself
relying on the chart less and less.
If the numbers don't
match up perfectly, they'll be close enough.

SCRAP
WOOD
Check
out cabinet shops for scrap wood if your projects are small you
can use a lot of what they throw away.
|
| CHECK
ACCURACY OF SAW
Cut a piece of wood in
half, stand on edge flip one of the pieces over and push them
together if they mesh perfectly your saw is square.
|
| MOTOR
MAINTENANCE
It is a good idea to blow
out your motors periodically to keep them working properly, at
the first sign of trouble, try blowing them out first.
|
| CUTTING
BOARD
I made one for cutting wide
boards, but find I use it for almost all my cutting on the table
saw, I marked off measurements, and was careful when I
constructed it so it cuts square. I used 1/4 in plywood and a
2x2 I lined it up using the saw table. PICTURE
|
| MOTORS
I have found that a 2 hp
motor 3450 rpm works very well on my table saw, and belt sander.
When you use the higher rpm motor you can use a smaller pulley
for more torque

| MAKE
YOUR OWN STAIN
If you like dark walnut
stain, you can make your own using lap cement, and turpentine,
use ½ cup lap cement and ½ gal turpentine or 1 part lap cement
to 10 parts turpentine. this will cut your stain cost in half.
|
| RESAWING
For resawing I use a
Bi-Metal blade 3/4 wide 3 teeth per inch.
|
| MAGAZINES
Most woodworking magazines
have a website and a lot of helpful information can be obtained
there.

| MIXING
EPOXY
Mix it in a sandwich bag
then cut off a corner to dispense.
|
| DENTED
WOOD
Wet dent let it dry, I use
a heat gun to speed it up, a hair dryer would work also.
|
| PATTERNS
I use my computer to draw
and save patterns, once I get the pattern in there I have the
ability to print it out, glue it on a piece of wood and cut it
out, I can also resize it, I use Coreldraw, and a pen tablet to
trace them in.
|
| FIXING
CRACKS
If a project you're working
on develops a crack, try this put a little woodworking glue in
the crack, then go over it with an orbital sander, the sawdust
will mix with the glue and make the crack invisible.
